Overview

In Public and Not for Profit (NfP) sector IT and Digital technologies, being able to prove your competence, knowledge and experience and show they are up to date could make all the difference in helping you take the next step in your career.

Socitm's accredited membership is based on the internationally recognised skills framework SFIA.

Accredited grades are determined by an assessment of how your role, achievements and responsibilities link to the levels set out in the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA). Socitm Australia awards post-nominal letters based on your SFIA responsibility level. See below.

Socitm is respected and recognised locally and internationally and SFIA is an internationally recognised skills framework. Having Socitm post-nominals and a SFIA (www.sfia-online.org) responsibility level as an accredited member will give you professional recognition.

Investment

Accreditation is currently FREE of any charge until 15 April 2016. Accredited members within a Corporate Membership do not pay any more but prices for individual accredited members are given below.

Outputs/deliverables

All member benefits are driven through four key areas and realised by the services provided in each area.

 

Associate and Student Member AMSITM 

Associate membership offers the ideal entry point for individuals who have an active interest in Information Technology (IT) and Digital or who are considering pursuing a career as a IT professional and wish to find out more about the discipline. Associate Member AMSITM is a non-accredited designation.

Student membership offers the full benefits of Associate membership at a discounted rate to reflect tight student budgets.  Students are defined as individuals who are currently undertaking study either a fulltime or part time course that is related to Information Technology or one of its related disciplines.
 

Professional Member PMSITM 

Professional member PMSITM is for supervisors, project coordinators and team leaders with three to five years' experience in managing an information technology or related activity. As an indicator, Professional Member PMSITM is the accredited designation is for experienced professionals with responsibilities at SFIA level 3 – 4.

Relevant knowledge, skills, experience and professional commitment will be demonstrated by achievements in the workplace. Recognition will be given to assessments of knowledge, skills and experience in the workplace or evidenced through other relevant professional memberships. 

Some individuals may also work at a higher level in a particular area of expertise. The Membership Review Panel may decide that an individual has satisfied the requirements for a more senior accredited designation and will make a recommendation to Membership Board where appropriate.

Senior Member SMSITM

Senior Member SMSITM is for managers in senior positions with high levels of personal responsibility for decisions that involve substantial resources and their consequences. In large organisations, the position may report to the person with overall responsibility for information technology or related functions.

In private sector organizations a Senior Member SMSITM may be responsible for significant strategy decisions or programmes that have been of benefit to the public or third sector. As an indicator, Senior Member SMSITM is the accredited designation for experienced professionals with responsibilities at SFIA level 5-6.

Relevant knowledge, skills, experience and professional commitment will be demonstrated by achievements in the workplace. Recognition will be given to assessments of knowledge, skills and experience in the workplace or evidenced through other relevant professional memberships. 

Fellow FSITM

Fellow FSITM is the most senior accredited designation and is awarded to professionals with overall responsibility for information technology or a related function who operate or have operated at a minimum of CIO level or equivalent and who make a significant contribution to their organisation and the Society.

Admission to Fellow FSITM requires a successful track record of significant achievement in transformational public service delivery and a breadth of strategic management and leadership skills commensurate with SFIA Level 7. Recognition will be given to achievements evidenced through other relevant professional memberships.

Honorary Fellow Hon FSITM

On occasions, Socitm recognises eminence by awarding Honorary FSITM to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to public service delivery or the Society. The award is by invitation only.
